This Apple Cake recipe was a staple around our house when we were kids. It was our Mom’s favorite dessert and we had it for most non-Christmas special occasions. You would think we would have gotten tired of it but no … this cake is just that good. Chock full of apples and cinnamon flavor and topped with our creamy, delicious Cream Cheese Frosting.  This is one of those easy sheet cake recipes that is great for a fancy get-together AND a backyard barbecue.  We hope you love this recipe as much as our family does!

Ingredients You Will Need

All the ingredients you will need to make Apple Cake including apples, lemon, granulated sugar, powdered sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, baking soda, cinnamon, oil, flour, butter and cream cheese.

How to Prepare the Apples

Step 1: Wash peel your apples. We use Granny Smith Baking Apples.
Step 2: Slice your apples into slices, as you would for an apple pie (as opposed to chunks.) Try to get the slices to be as uniform as possible so they will bake evenly in the cake. Sprinkle the apples with a squeeze of lemon to keep them from browning.

How to Make the Cake Batter

Step 3: Add the flour, cinnamon, and baking into a bowl.
Step 4: Whisk together until the cinnamon is well combined with the flour.

Serving/Storage Instructions

Step 18: This Apple Cake must be stored in the refrigerator because of the Cream Cheese Frosting. Cover the pan or store it in an airtight container and it should be good for at least a week.  We usually take the cake out of the refrigerator for about 20-30 minutes before serving it because we think it tastes the best at room temperature.
