If you are looking for a delicious appetizer that is a little fancier than chips and dip, this Stuffed Mushrooms recipe is for you. We wouldn’t really call it an upscale appetizer but it will definitely impress your party guests.  And who wouldn’t love roasted mushrooms stuffed with sausage, bread crumbs, garlic, and three kinds of cheese?  Nobody, that’s who. Add this one to your must-try list, you won’t be sorry.

How to Make the Sausage Stuffed Mushrooms

Step 1: Wash and remove the stems from the mushrooms and arrange them on a prepared baking sheet (lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.)
Step 2: Chop up mushroom stems.
Step 3: In a pan, melt butter on medium heat. Add mushroom stems, onions, and garlic and sauté until onions are soft.
Step 4: Remove the mushrooms from the pan and put them in a mixing bowl.

Step 5: Remove sausage from the casing and add to the pan you used to sauté mushroom stems.
Step 6: Break up the sausage into small pieces and cook thoroughly.
Step 7: Add the sausage (without the grease) to the mushroom stem mixture in the bowl.
Step 8: Add Bread Crumbs, Cream Cheese, Jack Cheese, and Parmesan Cheese, and mix well.

Steps 9-11: Use a tablespoon to scoop mixture into mushroom caps.
Step 12: Sprinkle Parmesan Cheese on top of filled mushroom caps.

Steps 12: Bake for 20-25 minutes in an oven preheated to 375 degrees. Bake until tops are browned and mushrooms are cooked through.

How to Serve/Store 

These yummy Stuffed Mushrooms are best served hot.  Store any leftovers in an air-tight container in the refrigerator.  They should last about a week.  You can reheat them in the oven for 5-10 minutes.

  • 24 Button or Cremini Mushrooms (with the stems removed)
  • 3 tablespoons Butter
  • 1 Shallot (finely chopped) (you can substitute onion)
  • 1 clove Garlic (minced)
  • 8 oz Italian Sausage (we used mild)
  • 4 oz Cream Cheese
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan Cheese (grated)
  • 1/2 cup Jack Cheese (grated)
  • 1/3 cup Bread Crumbs

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375 F.
  2. Wash and remove the stems from the mushrooms.
